About the Role

The Plumbing Shop Maintainer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of extensive plumbing systems within The Metropolitan Museum of Art, ensuring a stable environment for its priceless art collection.

Responsibilities

• Performs highly responsible independent work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all Museum plumbing equipment and systems.
• Makes routine examinations for the need for repairs and maintenance.
• Prepares and maintains records on work performed and materials used.
• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the Museum's plumbing equipment and its operation.
• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the Museum's floor plans and buildings.
• Responds to building emergencies.
• Performs preventative maintenance and repair.
• Performs related work as required, including special projects and work within all Museum-owned or operated buildings.
• Performs duties as assigned.
• Performs other related duties.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years' experience with all subject equipment and systems.
• Specialized skill as a plumber and pipe fitter.
• Experience in soldering, brazing, and PVC piping.
• Ability to perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb and balance.
• Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
• Significant fine finger dexterity required.
• Ability to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating objects.
• Ability to stand for sustained periods of time (with legal break times).
• Must be located within commuting distance of the Museum (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania).
