About the Role

The SYEP Borough Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and day-to-day management of an assigned Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) contract. This role oversees program operations, staff supervision, participant recruitment and enrollment, worksite development, compliance, and contract deliverables, ensuring a high-quality experience for all stakeholders. The Borough Coordinator also supports broader workforce development initiatives and collaborates with partners to expand youth opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, onboard, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate SYEP staff.
  • Coordinate participant recruitment, lottery selection, enrollment, orientation, placement, and onboarding.
  • Oversee the day-to-day implementation of the assigned SYEP contract.
  • Monitor program compliance, deadlines, policies, procedures, and contract deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and ensure required information is entered and maintained in applicable systems.
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with employers, community organizations, and worksites.
  • Recruit and maintain worksite partnerships that can support both summer and year-round workforce development opportunities.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for participants, parents, guardians, worksite supervisors, employers, community partners, and internal staff.
  • Coordinate and facilitate staff meetings, participant orientations, staff trainings, workshops, and other program-related activities.
  • Conduct regular worksite visits and maintain communication with worksite supervisors.
  • Oversee participant attendance tracking, timesheet and payroll documentation, and related processes.
  • Ensure participant and worksite incidents are documented, reported, and addressed.
  • Secure and coordinate appropriate facilities for program activities.
  • Collaborate with department staff and external stakeholders to resolve concerns effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to improve program operations, participant engagement, worksite partnerships, and overall program quality.
  • Collaborate with Youth Employment staff and other PAL departments on departmental initiatives.
  • Support the planning and implementation of PAL's broader workforce development initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects and provide support to other Youth Employment programs and initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Youth Development, Education, Human Services, Social Work, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • One to two years of experience in youth employment, workforce development, education, human services, program coordination, or a related field.
  • SYEP experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating programs, managing program operations, or working with youth-serving programs preferred.
  • Experience supervising, training, or providing guidance to staff preferred.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with databases, case management systems, or other program management systems preferred.
  • Ability to analyze program information and data.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to youth development, workforce development, and creating meaningful employment and career development opportunities for young people.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the assigned borough.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on program needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
  • Employment with PAL is contingent upon successful completion of all the Agency’s lawful pre-employment checks, which may include a background check.
