About the Role

Humber River Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern to join their Critical Care program. This role provides direct personal support to patients, assisting with basic care needs under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal support to patients, assisting with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, toileting, feeding).
  • Document activities of daily living (ADLs), including intake and output.
  • Communicate relevant patient information.
  • Immediately report any clinical concerns to the direct supervisor.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with inter-professional healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrates understanding of technology use.
  • Ability to provide basic assistive care with supervision and mentoring.
  • Mandatory compliance with HRH training (Privacy & Confidentiality, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, hand hygiene).
  • Good work attendance.
  • Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
