About the Role
The Design Lead - Home owns the brand’s visual presence across every digital and offline surface, including the e-commerce website, email, social media, and campaign content. This is a hands-on design role with strategic ownership, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining assets that carry the brand from launch through growth, and shaping design decisions as the team scales. The role blends craft with modern tooling, utilizing AI-assisted design and production tools daily to enhance speed and efficiency, and designing content optimized for both traditional search and AI-driven discovery.
Responsibilities
- Own website design and conversion-focused digital experience, including designing and maintaining all pages of the e-commerce site.
- Create high-fidelity mock-ups and page frameworks, grounded in e-commerce UX best practices and CRO research, and hand off developer-ready specs.
- Partner with Digital/IT on responsive implementation, ensuring design intent is maintained across desktop and mobile.
- Design product configurators, swatch and material presentations, and modular-layout visualizations.
- Utilize analytics, heatmaps, and A/B test results to iterate on page design, treating conversion data as design feedback.
- Ensure all digital experiences meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and AODA requirements.
- Produce and manage all digital content for product launches, promotional events, and campaigns, including email, social media, display, video cutdowns, and site banners.
- Design content with AI-era discoverability in mind, focusing on clear visual hierarchy, structured layouts, and imagery that supports AI search engine parsing.
- Plan and manage content production timelines against the brand launch calendar, keeping project trackers current.
- Collaborate with the creative production team on photography and video requirements, including shot lists and styling direction.
- Monitor content and campaign performance and use data to refine future creative.
- Own the creative asset packages required to onboard the category on retailer platforms such as Costco, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Wayfair, and Amazon.
- Adapt hero imagery, lifestyle photography, dimension diagrams, and feature callouts to each retailer’s specifications and style guides.
- Design enhanced content (A+ content, below-the-fold modules, comparison charts, and rich media) within platform constraints.
- Build reusable asset templates per retailer for quick onboarding of new SKUs, colorways, and configurations.
- Partner with e-commerce and sales teams on syndication timelines, asset submission, and retailer feedback rounds.
- Audit live retailer listings periodically for image quality, accuracy, and brand consistency, and refresh assets as the product line evolves.
- Apply AI-assisted design and production workflows using generative and AI-assisted tools for concepting, image extension, retouching, versioning, and resizing.
- Build repeatable, template-driven production systems for high-volume asset needs.
- Maintain clear standards for the acceptable use of AI-generated imagery, protecting product accuracy and brand integrity.
- Stay current on AI design tooling and evaluate new capabilities for production needs.
- Design print collateral that extends the brand into the physical world, including packaging, lookbooks, and guides.
- Create signage and environmental graphics for showroom displays and retail partner placements.
- Design assets for brand activations, pop-ups, trade events, and grand openings.
- Prepare production-ready print files with correct specifications and manage proofing with print vendors.
- Source and evaluate print and fabrication vendors, balancing quality, cost, and timelines.
- Ensure visual consistency between digital and physical touchpoints.
- Act as the design authority for the category, providing guidance and feedback to freelance and internal design support.
- Evaluate, brief, and manage freelance designers and production partners.
- Report project status, milestones, and risks on a regular cadence.
- Back design decisions with research and present findings to stakeholders clearly and concisely.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, growth, product development, and retail partners.
- Work alongside the Product Development team to build deep knowledge of the product line, materials, and modular system.
- Serve as centralized custodian of creative assets, establishing and maintaining a systematic repository.
- Implement digital asset management practices for efficient search, retrieval, and version control.
- Conduct periodic audits of the asset library for completeness, relevance, and quality.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in digital design, preferably with a brand or agency in consumer home goods, furniture, or DTC e-commerce.
- A portfolio demonstrating e-commerce and conversion-focused design work; DTC brand launch experience is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated fluency with AI-assisted design and production tools, and sound judgment about when to use them.
- Working knowledge of modern e-commerce platforms (SFCC or comparable) and how design decisions affect site performance.
- Proven project management and organizational skills, with the ability to drive multiple projects simultaneously.
- A creative eye for design and the ability to articulate creative vision to collaborators and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail with a high level of accountability for own work.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to take constructive criticism gracefully and offer alternate solutions to design challenges.
- Team leadership or freelance management experience is prioritized.
- Good presentation skills with the ability to communicate design choices clearly and concisely.
