About the Role

Works as an effective member of the perfusion service and provides for the safe performance and/or management of all duties associated with the job and for the population served based on the scope of services provided by the department.

Responsibilities

• Perform extracorporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary support.
• Manage counterpulsation, circulatory support/ventricular assistance.
• Utilize blood conservation techniques/autotransfusion.
• Perform myocardial preservation.
• Conduct anticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysis.
• Perform physiologic monitoring/analysis.
• Conduct blood gas and blood chemistry monitoring/analysis.
• Induce hypothermia/hyperthermia with reversal.
• Perform hemodilution and hemofiltration.
• Administer medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit.
• Document all associated duties.
• Maintain presence and availability as required by the nature of the position's duties.
• Properly maintain perfusion equipment to ensure patient and job safety.
• Assist with maintaining supply and equipment inventories for the perfusion service.
• Provide assistance, training, and education in the care of surgical patients as required.

• Demonstrate regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York Education Department.
• Graduate of a Cardiovascular Perfusion program recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Accreditation Committee for Perfusion Education (AC-PE).
• Three (3) years of perfusion experience.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Experience with perfusion related databases, preferably NYS DOH.
• Strong communication skills.
• Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) as recognized by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
• Licensed Perfusionist under Article 134 of the NYS Education Law.
• Requires significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.
• Involves some occupational risk.
• Requires sedentary/light effort, potentially exerting up to 10 lbs. force.
• Involves some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
