About the Role
BRC staff help New Yorkers experiencing homelessness reclaim their lives by providing a hand up, offering opportunities for health and self-sufficiency, and restoring hope and dignity. Each and every BRC staff member makes heroic contributions to our city, providing vital services in times of crisis and need.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of assigned caseload, including client meetings.
- Ensure clinical files and reports are complete and up-to-date.
- Engage individuals using a client-centered approach.
- Provide services and referrals for housing needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Track trends in housing placements.
- Orient clients with the housing group.
- Secure entitlements.
- Maintain correspondence related to housing interviews and vacancies.
- Assist clients in coordinating moves with landlords and other agencies.
- Serve as a liaison with DHS and other providers to facilitate the housing process.
- Provide housing retention services post-placement.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
- Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Significant experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Experience securing entitlements and housing.
- Knowledge of mental illness and substance abuse is helpful.
- Demonstrated writing skills.
- Demonstrated communication skills.
- Demonstrated group facilitation skills.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel.
- CPR training certification or willingness to complete certification training.
