About the Role
The Facilities Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment within BRC residential, shelter, and program facilities. This position performs custodial services, building maintenance support, sanitation, waste management, facility inspections, and general property upkeep, playing an essential role in supporting facility operations, workplace safety, and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily custodial duties throughout residential, shelter, and office environments.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect common areas, offices, restrooms, kitchens, dining areas, and client spaces.
- Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and other waste materials.
- Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, paper products, and restroom supplies.
- Support facility readiness by setting up, moving, or arranging furniture, equipment, and supplies for meetings and events.
- Complete routine building inspections and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, equipment failures, and repair needs.
- Help building operations through light maintenance activities, such as changing light bulbs, and assisting maintenance staff.
- Communicate facility needs and maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager.
- Provide excellent customer service while interacting with clients, residents, visitors, vendors, and staff.
- Respond to cleaning emergencies and spills.
- Maintain cleaning logs, maintenance records, and complete assigned documentation.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- One year, or more, of experience in custodial services, porter services, janitorial work, housekeeping, facilities maintenance, building operations, environmental services, or property maintenance.
- Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, sanitation procedures, and workplace safety practices.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, custodial tools, and cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to follow maintenance procedures, work orders, and operational instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness, safety, and customer service.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials.
- Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented facilities management environment.
