About the Role

Scale builds RL environments using operating data from companies. As the Data Acquisition Lead, you will own the end-to-end commercial process of acquiring this data, identifying key domains, and securing the necessary datasets. This is a foundational role requiring a blend of strategic dealmaking, operational execution, and technical understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Map the supply side of data by identifying organizations holding relevant data.
  • Develop a thesis on which domains are most valuable to own and in what order.
  • Invent deal structures and work with the legal team to define pricing for data transactions.
  • Manage the entire deal process from cold outreach to signature.
  • Engage in technical discussions to understand dataset trainability and data value.
  • Build repeatable processes and pipelines based on initial hands-on work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in business development, corporate development, commercial strategy, or early-stage go-to-market.
  • Proven track record of building a commercial motion from scratch.
  • Strong experience managing external relationships.
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to quickly assess partnership value.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort interacting with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Practical, hands-on approach to building new functions.
  • Comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Experience in AI, data infrastructure, marketplaces, platforms, or high-growth technology companies.
  • Familiarity with post-training, RL, evals, or synthetic data.
  • Experience with data licensing, IP, or regulated data.
  • Experience partnering with Legal and Finance on complex agreements.
