About the Role

The Toronto Zoo is seeking dedicated individuals to deliver a variety of programs for diverse audiences. Wildlife Educators will engage participants in curriculum-based programs, virtual sessions, and family/group events, contributing to the organization's mission of connecting people with wildlife and conservation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specified curriculum-based programs in person or virtually, using interpretive methods to engage participants.
• Set-up, preparation, and strike-down of the program space, maintaining a clean and safe learning environment.
• Assist in the creation of additional teaching aids/resources or provide input for program development as directed.
• Coordinate program details with other Zoo staff, including behind-the-scenes tours and animal visitors.
• Liaise with group leaders to finalize daily schedules and collaborate with staff/volunteers.
• Communicate important information to group leaders upon check-out.
• Inform Supervisors and/or Coordinators of factors affecting program execution and successes.
• Follow appropriate health & safety protocols and report any hazards immediately.
• Adhere to the Code of Conduct, acting as a role model with a professional attitude and demonstrating environmentally conscious behaviour.
• Regularly clean the work area to ensure it exceeds customer expectations and adheres to health and safety guidelines.
• Manage work time appropriately and check with Supervisors or Coordinators if job duties end early.

Requirements

• University degree/College diploma in biology, education, or related field, or equivalent Zoo education and related experience and training.
• Demonstrated experience delivering nature-related programs to youth.
• Demonstrated knowledge of animal, plant, and conservation issues.
• Demonstrated awareness of and commitment to sustainable practices.
• Ability to work well independently and in a team.
• Excellent interpersonal skills/experience.
• Working knowledge of WHMIS legislation and the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Bilingual in French is an asset.
• Familiarity with the Toronto Zoo and its wildlife/exhibits is preferred.
• Must be able to work evenings or sleep at the Zoo when scheduled for specific shifts.
• May be required to provide a police reference check and/or driver’s abstract.
• May be required to take a written and/or practical examination.
