About the Role

This role supports the AVP in financial close, budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc projects, working with various stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with quarterly expense close, Budget/Plan and Forecast processes.
  • Support ongoing and future ad-hoc projects.
  • Prepare working papers for financial statements and provide supporting information to auditors, tax, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain working papers, prepare reconciliations, and process journal entries.
  • Assist in the review of financial statements (including notes and analysis) for quarterly, year-end reporting, and annual audits.
  • Oversee the quarterly close process ensuring completeness and integrity of financial records, and accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
  • Assist in group reporting on a quarterly basis, including data file preparation, variance analysis, dashboard review, and narrative alignment with head office.
  • Support the implementation of new processes, including changes to accounting standards and policies.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual expense plan in coordination with department representatives.
  • Analyze quarterly expenses by cost centers and cost elements, comparing against plan, forecasts, and previous year actuals to identify variances and prepare reports.
  • Develop PBI dashboards, prepare narratives, and facilitate forecast discussions with the senior leadership team.
  • Monitor GL entries for alignment with the SAP Cost Module (CO) structure and compliance with Munich Re Group’s accounting guidelines.
  • Coordinate intercompany consolidation reporting requirements, analyze and reconcile intercompany accounts, including intercompany quarterly billing.
  • Compile inter-departmental reports capturing relevant quarterly data related to expenses.
  • Review various industry surveys and reports related to Stats Canada, CLHIA, OSFI, etc.
  • Support the implementation of ERP systems such as SAP One GT.
  • Provide decision-making support with strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external and internal stakeholders, providing excellent customer service and prompt responses to inquiries.
  • Update and maintain accounting documentation, adhering to company retention policy.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a natural desire to provide exceptional client service through energy, enthusiasm, and initiative.
  • Qualified CPA with a focus on accounting is required.
  • 5+ years related experience in financial reporting and analysis preferably in the insurance industry.
  • Experience with SAP GL, AP, CO and Cash Management modules.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SAP Business Warehouse (BW) Reports.
  • Experience with analytical tools such as Power BI would be an asset.
  • Ability to present financial information in a concise and clear manner.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.

  • High degree of flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and demands.
