About the Role

Flatbush Development Corporation's Program Director is responsible for ensuring the After School Program meets all program standards and funding guidelines. This role involves planning and organizing structured educational and recreational activities, supervising staff, and maintaining communication between school representatives, participants, staff, and supervisors. This is a Full Time, on-site position responsible for the daily supervision of the COMPASS Program.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight and supervision of the entire program, including budget development and modifications, working with funding sources, assisting with hiring, and ongoing staff support, supervision, and evaluation.
Ensure all required program elements are provided, overseeing outreach, recruitment, application process, program enrollment, and retention.
Ensure program participants have resources to attain their goals.
Utilize principles of positive youth development, employing behavior management and discipline techniques that foster social, emotional, and cognitive growth, and build self-esteem and responsibility.
Build positive relationships with and among participants, acting as a role model.
Create program schedules and enroll participants in activities, considering choice and performance targets.
Utilize formal program feedback to improve program design.
Organize and implement special projects.
Assist in the planning, coordination, and supervision of special events, projects, and field trips.
Ensure academic, social, cultural, vocational, and recreational components are implemented effectively, efficiently, and consistently with the curriculum.
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise frontline staff according to FDC policies.
Schedule and hold regular meetings with staff, partners, and key stakeholders to ensure quality service delivery and support school day learning.
Maintain and update required logs and program databases.
Supervise and support program delivery staff in facilitation, health & safety, and youth development principles.
Ensure proper staff coverage for scheduled and unscheduled time off.
Comply with and enforce all health and safety guidelines and regulations from FDC, NYS Department of Health, NYC Department of Health, and CDC.
Work with participants to resolve incidents (medical or behavioral) and communicate with parents as necessary.
Inform the Director of Youth Services of any issues and provide written statements when necessary.
Ensure all staff have appropriate training and documentation for SACC/DOH licensing, including clearances, medical forms, and Mandated Reporter Training.
Develop and implement a comprehensive family engagement plan aligned with program goals.
Plan and coordinate monthly family engagement events, workshops, celebrations, and educational activities.
Build positive relationships with parents and caregivers through regular communication and outreach.
Support organizational events, special initiatives, and community activities outside of regular work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Participate in meetings and workshops to enhance professional skills, as assigned.
Work with the Education Director, staff developers, and educational specialists to develop professional skills.
Apply acquired skills and knowledge to improve program quality.
Design a comprehensive professional development curriculum for staff.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
An associate’s degree in child development, elementary education, physical education, or recreation.
A School-Age Child Care Credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period and two years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work.
Two years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field.
4 years supervision experience working in afterschool programs or youth services.
Strong knowledge of the Department of Youth Child Development and Department of Health regulations and compliance.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Effective problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Required Certifications for SACC/DOH/DYCD licensing.
