About the Role

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Soccer Coach to launch and lead a new soccer program for elementary, middle, and high school students. This role involves shaping the program from the ground up, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, and supporting the athletic and personal development of students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate practices for players across K-12 age groups.
  • Tailor training programs to meet individual athletes' needs and goals.
  • Instruct players on fundamental skills, advanced techniques, and game strategies.
  • Assess athletes' performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Inspire and encourage athletes to reach their full potential.
  • Oversee soccer games, tournaments, and practices.
  • Maintain a safe training environment and manage equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous playing and/or coaching experience (Youth or high school level preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of soccer rules, techniques, and strategies at different youth stages.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Background check clearance (especially for youth coaching).

Skills

  • Relevant Coaching certification (e.g., USSF, UEFA, NSCAA) is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire athletes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Former soccer athlete/coach is ideal.
  • Keen knowledge of soccer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Highly effective at fostering a culture of accountability, great sportsmanship, respect for others, and self-discipline.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with scholars, parents, staff.
  • Robust attention to detail, and must have familiarity with logistics of soccer matches and events.
  • High energy, patience, and a positive attitude.
  • Knowledge and/or sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color.
