About the Role
Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Track and Field Coach to join the Promise Academy After-School program. The coach will foster a passion for HCZ's mission to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive programming.
Responsibilities
- Create and expand the track and field/cross-country program
- Develop and administer effective practices to keep scholar-athletes engaged
- Organize off-season training, practices, and meets
- Monitor and report on student progress and performance both in the classroom and playing field
- Partner with administration and teachers to ensure scholar-athletes are in full compliance with the Athletic Department Code of Conduct
- Monitor, record, and file essential documents pertaining to scholars on the team
- Develop positive relationships with scholars that promote wellness, social-emotional growth, respect, and increased self-esteem
- Bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents of Harlem
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED
- Keen knowledge of USATF and AAU regulations, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Former track athlete/coach is ideal
- Highly effective at fostering a culture of great sportsmanship, respect for others, and self-discipline
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with scholars, parents, staff
- Robust attention to detail, and must have familiarity with logistics of track meets and events
- Knowledge and/or sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color

- Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) is a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York.
- The Promise Academy Afterschool program is an extension of Promise Academy day school.
- The program provides 500+ students in grades K-12 a safe, nurturing, and educational environment that fosters self-confidence and personal and social development.
