About the Role

The Pretrial Specialist II is a journey-level position performing a full range of pretrial assessment, supervision, and case management duties with moderate independence. Employees in this role evaluate individuals referred for pretrial release consideration, verify background information, administer validated risk assessment tools, and prepare written reports and recommendations to support judicial decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Performs research, compiles and analyzes information/data regarding a variety of administrative, management, fiscal and organizational issues.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of management reports.
  • Performs analysis for new and existing administrative, management, program and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Performs analysis for budget development and resource planning.
  • Performs analysis for budget administration and/or fiscal/financial reporting.
  • Performs analysis for development and administration of competitive bid processes and contractual agreements.
  • Performs analysis for monitoring of grants received by department.
  • Oversees the ongoing supervision and compliance monitoring of individuals released under pretrial conditions.
  • Monitors client compliance through regular check-ins, electronic monitoring systems, drug testing coordination, and engagement with community resources.
  • Reviews alerts, documents compliance activity, addresses violations within established guidelines, and communicates significant updates to the court and supervising officers.
  • Leads the administration of the PSA, conducting comprehensive pretrial risk assessments, gathering and verifying defendant information, and preparing reports to assist the court in making informed release decisions.
  • Interviews defendants, reviews criminal history and background information, completes validated risk assessment tools, documents findings, and ensures all information is accurately recorded in the case management system.
  • May serve as lead worker to clerical, technical and/or subordinate professional staff.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and one (1) year full-time equivalent experience performing professional-level analytical work.
  • Qualifying professional-level analytical work includes analysis, development, administration, and reporting in major programs and functions of an organization in areas such as budgets, contracts, grants, policy, or other functional areas related to the duties of positions in the 182X Class series.
  • Possession of a graduate degree (Master's degree or higher) from an accredited college or university with major coursework in specialized subject matter areas such as public or business administration, management, business law, contract law, public policy, urban studies, economics, statistical analysis, finance, accounting or other fields of study closely related to the essential functions of positions in the Class series may be substituted for the required one (1) year of experience.
  • Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 2 years).
  • Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.
