About the Role
This role owns the cost and capacity strategy of our sort network, partnering closely with the Sort Quality lead to balance efficiency and service. Reporting to the Director of Sort Operations & Network Strategy, this role is central to how we scale our sort footprint cost-effectively.
Responsibilities
- Own capacity planning — Build forward-looking capacity models across the sort network, forecasting volume growth against facility and automation throughput to prevent bottlenecks
- Drive automation strategy — Identify and lead automation investments that reduce cost-per-unit while maintaining sort quality
- Lead real estate procurement — Own site selection and lease negotiation for new sort facilities in partnership with Real Estate and Finance
- Negotiate 3PL contracts — Lead commercial negotiations with 3PL partners to optimize cost, terms, and service levels
- Diversify the 3PL network — Build a multi-provider strategy that reduces concentration risk and strengthens negotiating leverage
- Partner cross-functionally — Work with Finance, Real Estate, Automation Engineering, and the Sort Quality lead to align cost strategy with service and growth targets
Requirements
- Analytical and financially fluent — comfortable modeling cost-per-unit, capacity, and ROI trade-offs
- Direct experience negotiating commercial contracts (3PL, real estate, or vendor)
- Led or influenced automation/capex decisions
- Operate well cross-functionally and can influence without direct authority
- 6+ years in network strategy, logistics, procurement, or operations
