About the Role

1:1 paraprofessionals provide services that directly impact a student’s learning environment by offering non-instructional support. This role releases instructional staff from necessary tasks, increasing their time with students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist classroom staff with non-teaching duties, including managing materials and equipment.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks within the classroom.
  • Attend to the physical needs of the child.
  • Supervise the student.
  • Perform other services as determined and supervised by the teacher.
  • Assist with the arrival and departure of the child to and from buses.
  • Set up and properly store equipment and materials for lessons.
  • Maintain a neat and clean classroom environment.
  • Set up and clean snack and lunch areas.
  • Assist individual children with feeding, toileting, and dressing as directed.
  • Escort the child to and from activities.
  • Assist in moving and/or lifting the child when necessary.
  • Participate in all in-service training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (including IEP Diploma) or an Equivalency Diploma.
  • Prior experience with developmentally disabled children in an educational or recreational setting is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for actions.

  • Ability to adapt to change in the workplace.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word.
