About the Role

Black & McDonald’s Southern Ontario Utilities team is seeking a Civil Estimator in Scarborough, Ontario. This role involves preparing civil and structural estimates and managing tenders for substation, utility, and renewable projects, with an emphasis on estimating and handling project changes.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantity take-offs for civil and structural scope items on RFP tenders.
• Prepare estimates using Bid2Win estimating software on renewable energy and substation utility projects.
• Estimate costs of materials, labour, and equipment based on drawings and specifications.
• Establish and maintain tendering processes, including cost monitoring and reporting systems.
• Prepare RFQ packages for subcontractors.
• Respond to clarification questions from subcontractors during the tendering process.
• Review and evaluate subcontractor quotes, recommending the best bid.
• Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners.
• Participate in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, and project closing meetings.
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Liaise with engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to prepare value design proposals.
• Update and maintain the Bid2Win database.
• Develop tender construction schedules.
• Develop methodology and execution of scope of work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering.
• Knowledge of construction fundamentals.
• 5+ years of civil and/or Electrical estimating experience.
• Civil estimation experience on renewable, substations, and various utility projects.
• Ability to read and interpret plans accurately and identify potential problems.
• Ability to work with others to resolve problems.
• Self-motivated and able to work with tight timetables.
• Ability to thrive in a high-paced dynamic environment.
