About the Role
This role is a Regular Part Time Support position within the Faculty of Community Services and Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on food service operations. The position requires supporting staff and program routines, ensuring food safety, and maintaining kitchen hygiene.
Responsibilities
- Unpack and distribute food containers from caterers for next-day pickup.
- Organize, prepare, and set up food for morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack.
- Check allergy lists and provide appropriate food and milk substitutions.
- Take food temperatures before serving and document actions on monthly record sheets.
- Label, date, and rotate stock, checking for spoilage.
- Post menus for parents and staff.
- Maintain and clean all kitchen appliances, including dishwasher, freezer, fridge, oven, and stove.
- Clean and disinfect countertops, shelves, pantry, bins, sinks, and service trolleys.
- Flush water taps for five minutes daily and submit logs.
- Maintain floors by sweeping and washing.
- Transfer laundry from washer to dryer.
- Assist with sleep time and other routines as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Secondary School completion or equivalency.
- Food Service Worker Certificate (preferred) or several completed courses from a certificate in progress.
- Successful completion of the Food Handler’s course and Safety awareness.
- Minimum one year of experience in a busy food service environment, preferably in a health or service industry.
- Fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS.
- First aid certificate required.
- Clear Criminal Record Check required.
- Job duties require recurring periods of moderate physical effort and periods of moderate lifting.
