About the Role

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will orchestrate the creation of technology solutions aligning with business goals. Your responsibilities include reviewing solution designs, designing scalable and secure architectures, evaluating new technologies, and overseeing high-level designs. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to advocate for best practices and work with business partners to create sound business architectures, ensuring innovative solutions adhere to architectural and security standards.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and lead the development of highly scalable data platforms and distributed processing systems that support Capital One Canada's data-driven initiatives.
  • Define and enforce enterprise-wide data governance standards, ensuring data quality, privacy, and compliance across all engineering pipelines.
  • Drive the technical strategy for data pipeline engineering, promoting the use of automated, resilient, and observable data workflows.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across all levels and cross-domains to promote technology strategies that deliver better business value and innovation.
  • Mentor data engineers in domains such as stream processing, data modeling, and ML Ops.
  • Champion data engineering excellence by leading the review of complex data architectures and establishing best practices for schema management and data lifecycle policies.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in Software Engineering and Systems Architecture or Technology Solution design
  • At least 2 years of experience creating solutions architectures in a public cloud (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

  • 3+ years of experience as a Solutions Architect in large/complex organizations
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 8+ years of experience architecting, designing, and/or delivering scalable and decoupled systems in a heavily regulated technology environment
  • 3+ years of experience working with internal and external business clients
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS concepts and implementations
  • Experience mentoring software engineers or architects

Education Level

  • Bachelor's, Master’s or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or in related field
  • Certification in TOGAF, AWS, or other relevant architectural frameworks.

Salary/Compensations

  • $202,400 - $231,000
  • performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es)
