About the Role
We are building a digital platform to give amateur football the recognition it deserves, creating a home for the passion millions feel every weekend. This role is crucial for scaling our Teamwear area, which currently depends on a single individual, and enabling it to grow beyond its current scope.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain data pipelines for automated data collection, designed for quick addition of new sources and markets.
- Develop algorithms to extract relevant information from websites and images.
- Ensure data quality through validation, confidence levels, monitoring, and clean handovers.
- Manage and further develop the data infrastructure for the Teamwear area.
- Act as the second technical point of contact for the Teamwear area.
- Develop internal tools to enable the team to collect and correct data independently.
- Create analytics and reports for internal stakeholders and external partners.
Requirements
- Bring 6-8 years of experience in software engineering and data engineering.
- Speak English fluently; German is a significant advantage.
- Possess a broad technical skillset, comfortable with data pipelines, backend, and some frontend development, and not afraid of AI or image analysis.
- Have experience with automated data pipelines, web scraping, and image processing.
- Demonstrate expertise in databases and data modeling.
- Work independently, even without immediate engineering support and with context from business teams.
- Quickly familiarize yourself with unfamiliar domains and ask pertinent questions.
- Understand the 80/20 principle, knowing when a fast and good-enough approach is suitable versus when 100% accuracy is required.
- Care about data quality details and make uncertainties explicit.
- Exhibit data-driven thinking, analyzing data to identify insights and suggest next steps.
- Write clean, maintainable code and follow engineering best practices like testing and code reviews.
- Experience with Python, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Grafana, Metabase, Pulumi, Kubernetes, AWS, LLM APIs is expected.
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, or IaC (Pulumi/Terraform) is a bonus.
- Experience presenting and preparing data for non-technical audiences is a bonus.
- A personal connection to amateur football is a bonus.
