Roswell Park Care Network has a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Physician Assistant at our Northtowns Medical Oncology Hematology Clinic in Williamsville, NY. Responsibilities

Provide healthcare services to patients including health promotion, cancer prevention, care for acute and chronic phases of illness, as well as patient and family education and counseling.
Refer patients to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate.
Assess the physical and psychological status of patients through interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
Recognize deviations from normal in physical assessment and collaborate with physicians in formulating treatment plans and follow-up.
Write prescriptions for medications and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
Review findings and determine eligibility for entry into clinical trials.
Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team and request written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
Interpret and evaluate findings from diagnostic studies.
Relay appropriate actions to facilitate and implement therapeutic plans consistent with the continuing care needs of the patient.
Administer therapeutic measures/obtain specimens as appropriate.
Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans consistent with the continuing care needs of the patient.
Dictate or write patient history, admission notes, care plans, progress notes, discharge notes, and follow-up letters.
Assist in management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during the acute and chronic phase of the patient’s care.
Triage patients appropriately and provide emergency treatment as necessary.
Consider the physical, emotional, social, and economic status, as well as cultural and educational backgrounds of individuals, families, and communities when providing care.
Ensure departmental and interdepartmental policies, procedures, and standards of care are maintained and assist in interpreting these to patients, visitors, and staff.
Inform supervisors and/or the nurse supervisor of actual/potential problems that require resolution at the administrative level.
Contribute to the nursing profession through publications, committee involvement, and development of educational media or use of creative approaches to improve patient care.
Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment.
Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and the psychosocial response to cancer and its treatment.
Identify the learning needs of the nursing and medical staff and students and implement educational programs as appropriate.
Provide formal and informal education to the nursing staff.
Act as a preceptor for graduate nursing students.
Participate in the development of clinical pathways and educational materials.
Provide consultation to community groups and professional groups.
Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems, resulting in system improvements or improvements in patient care.
Participate in continuous quality improvement/organization operating procedure activities.
Demonstrate a commitment to continuously improving the quality of care provided to patients.
Apply current concepts and principles from research to practice setting.
Initiate changes in clinical practice based on findings of research or quality improvement projects.
Participate in multidisciplinary clinical research activities; participate in clinical trials and act as a patient advocate.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in Physician Assistant studies; or Bachelor's degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certification Program recognized by the New York State Education Department.
Physician Assistant Certification to Practice in New York State
One year of experience required. Oncology preferred.
BLS required.
