About the Role

Performs specific maternal, infant, and surgical care activities as well as OR surgical technologist duties and non-professional activities under the direction of a registered nurse. Provides care necessary to meet the physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs of the neonate and women of childbearing age.

Responsibilities

• Collects and utilizes data for proper preparation of the surgical suite.
• Prepares surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment using the OR schedule and preference cards.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of sterile/aseptic technique, including opening supplies aseptically and adhering to dress code and infection control policies.
• Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy.
• Utilizes supplies, equipment, and time in a cost-effective manner.
• Checks equipment for proper working order and reports or corrects unsafe conditions.
• Verifies exposure to a sterilization process and integrity of sterile packaging.
• Assists with preparation of instruments/equipment for decontamination or sterilization and restocking of supplies/equipment.
• Adheres to Infection Control and Quality Assurance Policy and Procedures.
• Identifies problems in patient care delivery and refers them to the appropriate personnel.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and reports variances.
• Reports incidents, irregularities, unsafe conditions, equipment, and unusual occurrences immediately.
• Maintains and models REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
• Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduated from a CAAHEP- or ABHES- accredited program.
• Completed a military surgical technology program.
• Requires 15 hours of continuing education (CE) each year.
