About the Role

Williamsburg Animal Clinic is seeking a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Assistant for a permanent, full-time role. This position requires rotating Saturdays and involves assisting veterinary technicians and veterinarians with various tasks to ensure excellent patient and client care.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint, medication administration, and sample collection.
• Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment by disinfecting surfaces, sanitizing equipment, and cleaning kennels.
• Prepare examination rooms for appointments, ensuring they are well-stocked and organized.
• Greet and assist clients, helping them feel welcome and comfortable.
• Escort clients and their pets to exam rooms and obtain preliminary information.
• Provide support during medical procedures, including setting up equipment, holding animals, and monitoring well-being.
• Prepare and label laboratory samples accurately.
• Assist with radiography by positioning animals and operating equipment.
• Educate clients on medication administration, preventive care, and post-operative instructions.
• Keep accurate and detailed records of patient care, treatments, and interactions.
• Assist with inventory management and restocking supplies.
• Participate in maintaining a positive and collaborative team atmosphere.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting is required.
• Strong animal handling skills and comfort working with a variety of species.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow directions closely.
• Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
• Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
• Physical stamina to lift and carry animals, stand for extended periods, and perform cleaning tasks.
