About the Role

Central Technology is the engineering heart of LEGO Digital Play, dedicated to pioneering creative and joyful digital experiences. Our teams build the foundational platforms, tools, and capabilities that power LEGO's digital future, working at the intersection of play, applied AI, and developer tooling. This is a unique opportunity to shape something from the ground up within one of the world's most loved brands.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build graphics technology and tooling to enable high-quality visual results for game development teams.
  • Select and implement rendering techniques that maintain visual quality and performance at extreme scene scale and density, scaling across mobile devices and beyond.
  • Contribute to graphics-related benchmark and regression suites to ensure core systems render within frame budgets.
  • Ground technical direction in evidence, presenting findings to inform teams.
  • Profile, debug, and optimize across CPU and GPU to ensure technology performs well for users.
  • Contribute to core systems and tooling surrounding the renderer in partnership with specialists and tools engineers.
  • Embed brand integrity, reliability, and safety-by-design principles into the technology.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep expertise in real-time rendering, including evaluating, selecting, and implementing techniques for extreme scene scale and density across various mobile hardware tiers and other platforms.
  • Background in games with one or more shipped high-quality titles.
  • Expert C/C++ skills with experience in large codebases, capable of hands-on implementation, debugging, profiling, and shipping.
  • Strong shader programming skills.
  • Experience developing with a major game engine (commercial or proprietary) and willingness to work with them.
  • Rigorous, evidence-driven approach to performance work, including profiling, benchmarking, measurement, and analysis.
  • Fluency with modern AI tooling for development, understanding its use for speed while retaining judgment for quality and failure detection.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical audiences, with the ability to present findings and trade-offs clearly.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity in an early-stage environment, demonstrating sound judgment and integrity.
  • Experience building or significantly contributing to rendering engine internals.
  • Console development and cross-platform rendering experience.
  • Publications, conference talks, or open-source contributions in rendering.
