About the Role

The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) is seeking two System Administrators for Linux/HPC (w/m/d) to support and expand the scientific services of the National High-Performance Computing Center (NHR). This role is crucial for the efficient operation and advancement of HPC resources, focusing on innovative IT technologies and the administration of complex HPC architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Administer complex HPC architectures, specializing in areas like parallel file systems, Slurm resource management, system deployment, and automated system monitoring.
  • Evaluate innovative new technologies in the HPC environment, particularly for AI workloads.
  • Configure complex software stacks for system monitoring (Icinga, check-mk, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK).
  • Automate recurring tasks and contribute to the documentation of code and processes.
  • Develop user interfaces for optimized operational implementation.
  • Participate in the evaluation of pre-release and early shipment systems.
  • Present project results and contribute to NHR training activities.
  • Perform selected administrative and technical tasks directly in the data center.

Requirements

  • Completed university degree in a relevant STEM field with corresponding professional experience, or a relevant completed vocational training (e.g., IT specialist for system integration) with several years of relevant professional experience, or comparable knowledge and skills acquired through many years of relevant professional experience.
  • Good knowledge of modern heterogeneous computing architectures and storage systems in the HPC environment.
  • Experience in administering Linux systems (RHEL and derivatives), HPC systems, and SLURM.
  • Very good knowledge of Bash, Python, Ansible.
  • Experience with programming languages common in the HPC field (C/C++/Fortran) is desirable.
  • Good English language skills and German language skills at at least B2 level.
  • Independent and goal-oriented work style.
