About the Role
The Licensing team at PPL licenses the use of recorded music across the UK, negotiating terms with broadcasters and other licensees to ensure a fair return for members while balancing licensee needs. This role focuses on supporting negotiations with TV broadcasters, providing research, insight, and analysis to inform licensing strategies and commercial positions.
Responsibilities
- Provide robust research, insight, and analysis to support the development of licensing proposals and negotiation strategies.
- Present and explain audience and music usage trends across broadcasters, using analysis to inform commercial positions and support licensing negotiations.
- Manage ongoing TV licence agreements and monitor compliance with key licence terms, including payment and music reporting obligations.
- Identify, monitor, and contact unlicensed television services that may require a PPL licence.
- Negotiate, implement, and manage licences for selected customer accounts.
- Support invoicing, forecasting, and budgeting processes in partnership with Finance.
- Maintain administrative processes by updating spreadsheets and databases, ensuring relevant information flows between internal departments, licensees, and external parties.
- Support improvements to the team’s analytical capabilities by sharing expertise, mentoring colleagues, and using data to support negotiations.
- Respond to phone and email enquiries about PPL’s television licences.
- Contribute to inter-departmental initiatives, ensuring Licensing requirements are captured.
- Build strong relationships with licensees, their representatives, and relevant industry organisations.
Requirements
- Experience interpreting large and complex datasets to inform business decisions.
- Experience managing relationships with stakeholders at different levels of seniority.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and workstreams simultaneously, prioritizing and re-prioritizing according to business needs.
- Understanding of business financials and reporting.
- A proactive approach to self-development and openness to feedback.
- An interest in the music and media industries, including how technology is changing listening and viewing habits.
