About the Role
Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is seeking a certified or certifiable Physical Education and Health teacher for middle school students. This role involves collaborative work with other teachers and a focus on creating meaningful and relevant learning experiences.
Responsibilities
- Exhibit subject area knowledge in Physical Education and Health.
- Make topics and activities meaningful and relevant to students.
- Integrate technology resources compatible with student needs.
- Develop clear, logical, and sequential lesson plans.
- Plan with specialists to differentiate instruction.
- Link present content/skills with past and future learning.
- Use various instructional strategies to differentiate learning.
- Employ effective questioning strategies to engage students.
- Monitor student understanding and adjust teaching.
- Maximize student learning through active participation.
- Explain content and demonstrate skills in various ways.
- Hold each learner individually responsible for learning.
- Use assessment results to monitor and modify instruction.
- Utilize teacher-made and standardized tests to measure performance.
- Employ oral, non-verbal, and written assessment forms.
- Organize and maintain student progress records for instructional decisions.
- Continuously monitor student progress and provide feedback.
- Demonstrate competence in grading and reporting student achievement.
- Use precise language and effective oral/written communication.
- Articulate clear learning goals and instructional procedures.
- Model caring, fairness, courtesy, respect, and active listening.
- Model concern for students’ emotional and physical well-being.
- Seek and maintain positive student interactions.
- Seek student interests and opinions.
- Enforce school behavior policies and involve students in the classroom community.
- Communicate clear behavior expectations to students and parents.
- Monitor student behavior and provide constructive feedback.
- Create a learning-conducive physical setting and establish routines.
- Manage transitions efficiently and constructively.
- Manage emergency situations.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues for student benefit.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Interact ethically and professionally with colleagues and students.
- Carry out duties in accordance with policies and regulations.
- Resolve concerns and problems through appropriate channels, maintaining confidentiality.
- Complete assignments and responsibilities in a timely manner.

- Explore and apply new instructional methods.
- Identify and improve personal strengths and weaknesses.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- NYS certification in Physical Education preferred.
- At least 2 years prior teaching experience in middle school preferred.
- Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settings.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with educational technology.
Skills
- Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program.
- Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for pupils from a wide range achievement levels.
- Assess instructional and educational needs of pupils, and design, develop, and implement sound instructional and educational programs.
- Provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment.
- Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions.
- Work effectively with staff, students, and public.
- Organize tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
- Demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Respond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting.
- Knowledge or ability to use SIS (student information systems) or online learning platforms (PowerSchool, Google Classroom, etc.).

- $75,000 - $105,000 annually (Based on Experience)
