About the Role

The Custodian performs cleaning and maintenance functions to maintain a clean and sanitary appearance of the assigned facility, ensuring it is safe and clean for participants and community members. This role involves identifying and coordinating facility repairs with NYCHA staff.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors, including waxing and buffing as needed.
• Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of all restrooms.
• Handle daily pick up and removal of trash throughout the Center.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and notify supervisor of order needs.
• Set up and move equipment, including gym equipment and furniture.
• Assist with facility setup for meetings, conferences, and events.
• Operate and maintain power equipment and hand tools for cleaning and maintenance.
• Keep building entrances and exits clear and compliant with NYC Fire Safety stipulations.
• Clean building entrances as needed.
• Remove snow and ice.
• Secure the building by locking/unlocking and checking for obstructions.
• Report emergencies, building leaks, and assist in identifying repairs for NYCHA.
• Assist in monitoring the front desk and security, including covering lunch periods.
• Direct clients to appropriate programs/offices.
• Assist with opening and closings for election staff and volunteers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• One year of relevant work experience
• Must be flexible with work hours

Skills

• Bilingual Cantonese or Spanish Speaking a plus
