About the Role

As a Data Engineer at Arden University, you will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, models, and integrations to ensure data is clean, reliable, and ready to power dashboards, reporting, analytics, and AI-driven solutions. You will collaborate with various teams to solve complex data challenges and improve the University's data capabilities, playing a key role in building data foundations during a significant digital and AI transformation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, models, and integrations.
  • Ensure data is clean, reliable, and ready to power dashboards, reporting, analytics, and AI-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, Developers, and business teams.
  • Solve complex data challenges.
  • Continuously improve the University's data capabilities.
  • Work with modern data technologies.
  • Play a key role in building data foundations.

Requirements

  • Experience using programming languages such as Python, R and/or SQL.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling techniques, including dimensional modelling, Medallion architecture and Lakehouse design patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern cloud data platform, such as Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery or equivalent.
  • Experience using Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric Data Factory or Apache Airflow.
  • Knowledge of version control systems, such as Git.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments, including Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience contributing to or implementing CI/CD pipelines for data and software delivery.
  • Understanding of data quality testing, monitoring and observability practices.
  • Strong data literacy, with the ability to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT.
  • Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and their practical application in data engineering.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure data and analytics tools.
  • Experience using Power BI or other data visualisation and BI tools.
  • Formal Data & Analytics qualification e.g. Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Azure Data Engineer/Scientist Associate (Desirable).
  • Experience in the use of data and analytics tooling within Microsoft Azure (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and data science techniques (Desirable).
  • Exposure to Agentic AI concepts and AI agent framework (Desirable).
