About the Role

Chief of Staff (CoS) to the CTO will act as a strategic leader, establishing operational excellence and driving complex problem-solving to support the CTO in achieving maximum results towards company goals. The CoS will lead process establishment, task prioritization, conflict resolution, issue management, and organizational alignment, proactively identifying and addressing challenges before they reach the CTO. The CoS will serve as a key advisor for the CTO's ideas, leveraging excellent communication and collaboration skills, and in some cases, representing the CTO in both verbal and written communication in English and Japanese. Furthermore, the CoS will foster trust and collaboration with the leadership team, Woven by Toyota, the Toyota Group, and key external stakeholders. A passion for "saving lives and improving quality of life" through technological transformation is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Align the CTO's management team to function as a cohesive unit under a single plan.
  • Integrate KPIs to provide the CTO with a holistic view of company performance and focus areas.
  • Bridge and build partnerships with key stakeholders, including Toyota and the Toyota ecosystem, to foster synergy and maximize efforts towards company goals.
  • Manage budgets in collaboration with finance and relevant stakeholders, aligning with strategic and financial planning and hiring plans.
  • Support the CTO on strategic themes, act as a proxy for operational execution, and represent the CTO.
  • Optimize the CTO's time allocation based on business priorities and assist in selecting focus areas and stakeholders.
  • Resolve issues before they escalate to the CTO by addressing challenges proactively, mediating conflicts, and fostering alignment.
  • Create and provide dashboards and analytical materials to support the CTO's goal achievement.
  • Drive operational excellence and business foundation development to achieve results, foster growth, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Proactively prepare for and meticulously organize materials for events and meetings to meet the CTO's needs.
  • Demonstrate leadership to maximize team and individual performance through active listening, empathy, inclusion, and embodiment of company values.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience supporting C-level executives in complex organizational environments, with a track record of strategic and operational problem-solving.
  • Experience as a strategic partner and practical right-hand to senior leadership, leading and coordinating complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, communication, multi-faceted operational management skills, and proven ability to build trust with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership with high ethical standards and empathy, effectively collaborating across all levels while navigating organizational complexities.
  • Track record of driving change management and transformation, including company-wide strategy development, process improvement, and cultural change.
  • Experience achieving shared goals across departments, levels, and organizations through collaboration and influence at the senior level.
  • Experience working in multicultural environments and settings with varying organizational maturity.
  • Mission-driven leadership with a conviction that technology contributes to the common good of humanity.
  • Execution capability to flexibly navigate ambiguous environments, driving company OKR formulation, product roadmap design, problem-solving, and alignment among diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluent in both English and Japanese, including advanced written and verbal communication skills.
