About the Role
Union Maritime (UML) is seeking to strengthen its specialist Commercial Operations team in its London HQ to support its growing tanker and dry bulk fleet, as well as a substantial newbuild program. This role oversees the commercial operations for the owned tanker fleet across spot and period charter structures, contributing to a truly global team with members in London, Lagos, and Singapore.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate timely provision of voyage orders and agency appointments.
- Manage and ensure compliance with charter party terms.
- Review tank cleaning plans and oversee progress and verification of cleaning standards.
- Coordinate bunker planning efficiently.
- Review stowplans to optimize cargo intakes and assist with pre-fixture tasks.
- Obtain letters of indemnity from Counterparts for deviations from charter party terms.
- Maintain and file voyage-related data in various systems.
- Disclose information internally according to company escalation protocols.
- Undertake ad hoc tasks to support business needs or growth projects.
- Raise timely freight and hire invoices using the voyage management system (Q88 VMS).
- Assist the claims department with on-voyage claims.
- Oversee vessel EUA positions.
- Be physically present five days a week in the London HQ.
- Be available outside of regular office hours as required.
- Function autonomously without direct supervision after the induction period.
Requirements
- Proven track record handling shore-based operations for tankers (minimum 3 years' experience).
- Commercial awareness and ability to demonstrate this in core responsibilities and decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail, meticulousness, and numeracy skills.
- Ability to work as a team player within a diverse and global department.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Awareness that the job may require after office hours and/or weekend attention.
- Availability to manage critical out-of-hours issues.
- Ability to work as a proactive self-starter with a resilient mindset.
Skills
- Chemical tanker experience (advantageous)
- Positive mindset
- Proficient with Microsoft suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Power BI skills (advantageous)
