About the Role
Reporting to the Community Health & Well-being Manager, the Health Promotion Specialist will play a coordinating role in the analysis, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, interventions, projects, and policies related to health promotion across the lifespan.
Responsibilities
- Provides expert advice and consultation on health issues to management, staff, the Board of Health, external groups, community professionals, leaders, and the public.
- Assesses population and community health needs and analyzes public health issues.
- Coordinates evidence-based reviews to determine effective public health interventions.
- Develops, plans, implements, and evaluates public health initiatives using health promotion strategies.
- Collaborates with Public Health program staff in strategic and operational planning.
- Identifies emerging issues and trends related to population health and health inequities.
- Analyzes information and prepares materials to guide management and staff on programs, projects, and priorities.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates divisional projects and programs related to health and well-being.
- Identifies opportunities to strengthen and implement municipal, provincial, and federal legislation and strategies.
- Develops policy recommendations for health issues at all government levels.
- Coordinates and facilitates in-service training, staff orientation, and development programs.
- Drafts, revises, and recommends resource materials for staff and the public.
- Liaises, consults, and collaborates with internal and external groups, agencies, organizations, committees, and partners.
- Conducts situational analyses, environmental scans, and jurisdictional reviews.
- Plans, develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates programs, policies, and services.
- Supports research and writing for briefing materials, reports, and funding proposals.
- Prepares and makes presentations, and responds to inquiries from staff, officials, agencies, and the public.
- Collaborates on applied public health research, field studies, epidemiological studies, and student training.
- Represents the Division and communicates divisional priorities at meetings, workshops, and committees.
Requirements
- A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of a baccalaureate degree and extensive experience.
- Considerable experience in developing programs, policies, and procedures.
- Considerable experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion strategies across the lifespan.
- Considerable experience in leading and organizing complex projects, managing concurrent projects and meeting timelines.
- Considerable experience in developing and implementing training and/or education sessions.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting data to inform decision-making.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, facilitation, and conflict management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentation development, and communication planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team and foster relationships with stakeholders.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call, overtime, evenings, and weekends.
- Possession of a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a vehicle is an asset.
- Community Health and Well-being Directorate experience is an asset.
