About the Role

Join Capital Markets Investment Analytics (CMIA), an innovation-driven technology team within Capital Markets at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. This 8-month internship offers the chance to work and build tools for a software-based trading portfolio, managing a diversified set of portfolios and systematic applications. You will be mentored and guided by senior members of the CMIA team.

Responsibilities

  • Improve and work on internal proprietary investment strategy codebase under senior guidance.
  • Support investment functions including proprietary strategies, algorithmic trading, portfolio management, order management, risk analysis, automated reporting, P&L analysis, performance attribution, portfolio analytics, quantitative strategies research & implementation, regression tests, and investment reporting.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and introduce new ideas through analysis and research.
  • Investigate and attribute portfolio profit and loss to various strategies and factors.
  • Work with various datasets, including sourcing, cleaning, and visualization.
  • Gain experience in asset classes such as equities, fixed income, currencies, and commodities.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of portfolio implementation infrastructure and analytical tools.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in a quantitative discipline like Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering concepts and techniques, including design patterns, object-oriented programming, databases, and version control systems.
  • Strong interest in financial markets.
  • Strong motivation to learn about systematic investment strategies and automated trading systems.
  • Must be returning to studies after the work term.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in the country where the role is located.

Skills

  • Strong programming skills in modern programming languages, with a preference for Python, MATLAB, and JavaScript.
  • Highly creative, entrepreneurial, and resourceful.
