About the Role

This role will manage engineering projects relating to the design and development of firefighting and specialised vehicles/appliances. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, supervise team members, coordinate engineering activities, manage project delivery and ensure designs meet relevant standards, safety and organisational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead engineering tasks for specialised vehicle/appliance design and development, providing innovative and fit-for-purpose technical solutions.
  • Supervise and mentor team members, managing workload, performance and delivery outcomes.
  • Oversee engineering projects including planning, resource coordination, costing, risk management, reporting and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Review and assess designs, drawings, models and specifications to ensure they meet organisational and technical requirements.
  • Identify and manage safety, technical, financial and quality risks in line with relevant standards, government policy and best practice.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, engineers, suppliers, technicians and contractors.

Requirements

  • Advanced Diploma in a relevant technical field such as mechanical, civil, electrical/mechatronic engineering, or equivalent technical expertise.
  • Strong experience in engineering design principles, including interpretation of drawings, models, specifications and relevant standards.
  • Understanding of design best-practice principles and Australian Design Rules.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a small technical/design team and delivering design-related outcomes.
  • Strong technical management, research, problem-solving and project management capabilities.
  • Experience in mechanical, automotive, heavy vehicle, specialised vehicle, fleet or related engineering environments is highly desirable.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk or similar drafting/design software is highly desirable.
  • Emergency services and/or defence experience will be highly regarded.
