About the Role
OPAL Fuels is seeking a Senior Accountant with strong U.S. GAAP expertise and experience operating within a multi-entity public company environment. This role supports financial close, reporting accuracy, internal controls, and operational accounting excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional coordination for 12 RNG entities as the primary accountant subject matter expert, ensuring accurate accounting treatment and reporting of RNG-related transactions and environmental attributes.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by preparing accruals, revenues, royalties journal entries and performing complex account reconciliations.
- Perform month-to-month financial analysis and prepare internal financial reporting packages for management.
- Provide timely financial insights to management, operations teams and external stakeholders.
- Prepare external financial reporting package for joint venture partners and external stakeholders, ensuring timely compliance with contractual reporting requirements.
- Support construction cost accounting, including monitoring budgets vs. actuals, reviewing project cost allocations, and ensuring proper capitalization and close-out of construction projects.
- Coordinate with business leaders on contracts and deals provide insights from accounting perspective.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting controls and documentation for SOX-aligned environments.
- Assist with intercompany transaction accounting, eliminations, and reconciliation of intercompany balances.
- Support external audit activities through preparation of schedules, analysis, and documentation.
- Participate in system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 4 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a public company or multi entity corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control best practices.
- Advanced Excel skills; proficiency with ERP/accounting systems.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results within deadlines.
- Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and professional judgment.
- Experience supporting financial reporting for multi-location operations preferred.
- Proactive, collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively across the organization.
