About the Role
Jericho Project is seeking an experienced Handyman for a full-time position at a building on West Tremont Avenue. This role involves performing a variety of repair and maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep of a 79-studio building for adults. The candidate will be responsible for general maintenance, repairs, and assisting the maintenance team, with potential requirements to work after regular hours for emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Sweep and mop lobby, hallways, and stairs daily and as needed.
- Clean sidewalks up to 18 inches into the street.
- Clean bathrooms and common areas.
- Empty office trash, clean compactor rooms daily, and clean/wash down compactor chute doors.
- Place garbage on the sidewalk/curb according to the DOS pickup schedule.
- Clean front, rear, and side yards.
- Keep roofs and drains clean.
- Clean windows, glass entrance doors, windowsills, and radiators daily.
- Paint over graffiti and repair holes in stairways.
- Remove snow and ice as needed.
- Perform minor repairs.
- Plaster and paint.
- Change locks.
- Perform minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
- Assist the Superintendent when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Available to work after normal work hours and be on call for emergencies and special situations.
- Knowledge of plumbing, electricity, and carpentry with the ability to apply this knowledge.
- Knowledge of relevant NYC Property Management sanitation, building, and maintenance rules, regulations, and codes.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Able to repair rooms to move-in ready condition in a timely manner.
- Ability to receive and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Capability to plan and schedule work and complete work orders.
- Ability to make clear and concise decisions quickly and effectively under pressure.
- Adaptable to changes in the work environment, including delays or unexpected events.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others.
- Ability to speak, hear, see, and write.
- Ability to use a computer and related software programs.
- Local and/or national travel may be required.
- May require longer weekday/weekend commitments for projects or deliverables.
