About the Role
The Career Counselor will provide workforce development services to program participants to help them achieve employment, educational attainment, and skills development goals. This role involves close collaboration with case management and Business Services teams to ensure participant goals are met.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of about 100 participants to help them access education/training, prepare for employment, find and keep employment, and maintain economic self-sufficiency.
- Maintain active engagement in all phases of tenant enrollment in Workforce Opportunities (WfO) services.
- Develop and implement effective client engagement strategies and maintain high participation in WfO services.
- Conduct bi-weekly outreach to all participants and maintain progress notes.
- Complete and update employment and educational assessments and service plans twice a year, or more often as needed.
- Identify and refer participants to job training programs, HSE, ESOL, adult literacy, life skills, and higher education programs.
- Assist participants in developing a job readiness portfolio, including a resume, cover letter, and interview skills assessment.
- Collaborate with WfO’s Employment Specialists to respond to job leads and refer participants for matching positions.
- Assist participants in conducting independent job searches and identify new job leads.
- Provide job retention and follow-up services for employed participants for a minimum of two years.
- Access community resources to support participants' job search, retention, and re-placement efforts.
- Participate in case conferencing sessions with case management, program director, and Business Services teams.
- Attend WfO monthly team meetings and supervisory meetings.
- Maintain and update participant records in the AWARDS system within the required timeframe.
- Provide reports on participant engagement, job readiness/search/education/training activities, and job placement outcomes.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned, potentially including service delivery in multiple sites.
- Provide services to up to two sites as needed for client engagement and job search.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Knowledge and experience in workforce development and service delivery to low-income individuals with significant barriers to employment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to help 105 job seekers secure employment and reach job retention milestones.
- Ability to travel throughout the five boroughs.
- High level of computer literacy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with individuals in mental health/substance abuse recovery is highly preferred.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness is highly preferred.
- Experience providing supported employment services to individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in helping low-income job seekers find and keep jobs.
- Working knowledge of AWARDS is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of Motivational Interviewing and Person-centered planning are preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel to various sites.
- Ability to speak, hear, see, and write.
- Ability to use a computer and related software programs.
- Local and/or national travel required, with potential for longer weekday/weekend commitments.

- $53,000.00 to $55,000.00 annualized
