About the Role
Jericho Project is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Young Adult (YA) Mentor to provide services with an awareness of, sensitivity to, and respect for diversity. This position will engage with Walton House Young Adult clients, offering support and guidance for outreach, housing stabilization, and service provision. Responsibilities include outreach, intake, and organizing recreational and social events.
Responsibilities
- Work with clinical and workforce development staff to identify and address young adult needs.
- Accompany young adults to Housing Court, Section-8 briefing appointments, HRA office, Social Security Office, housing inspections, and apartment searches.
- Assist young adults in gaining education/career-oriented skills and meeting their service plan goals.
- Participate in and encourage young adult involvement in onsite and offsite groups and events.
- Run one bi-weekly group to offset required bi-weekly YA events.
- Organize recreational and social events for the YA cohort.
- Collaborate with Veteran Peer Mentor on ongoing events and event planning.
- Collaborate with Program Director, Assistant Director, Life Coaches, and Career Counselor for participant development, motivation, and mentorship.
- Conduct outreach to community organizations, schools, housing courts, and food pantries to identify resources and opportunities for young adults.
- Develop and maintain community linkages for referrals and assist in completing a YA Resource Book within the first year.
- Maintain effective working relationships with external community partners and program staff.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
- Actively assist and participate in all program activities and special events, including attending community meetings and keeping minutes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by Assistant Program Director or Program Director.
Requirements
- High School diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred or extensive experience in lieu of education.
- Must have experienced homelessness/housing crisis between ages of 18-25.
- CASAC credentials preferred.
- Experience working in homelessness, substance abuse, mental health, and/or trauma settings preferred.
- Understanding of the LGBTQ community and issues specific to the young adult population.
- Must be a self-starter with the skills and energy to work with high-need Young Adults.
- Strong organizational, writing, and computer skills.
- Strong engagement and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel to various sites.
- Ability to speak, hear, see, and write.
- Ability to use a computer and related software programs.
- Local and/or national travel required.
- May require some longer weekday/weekend commitments.
