About the Role

Ophthalmic Techs are responsible for all pre-exam elements of the patient visit, including gathering and documenting patient information and history and conducting routine and ancillary patient testing. You’ll play a vital role in the patients experience with OCLI and in helping our Dr’s to diagnose and treat eye disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Test and record patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes and collect and process specimens for testing.
  • Triage emergency cases appropriately into physicians’ schedule and maintain patient flow.
  • Prepare patient and procedure room and assist ophthalmologist with procedures as needed.
  • Perform first level maintenance on ophthalmic equipment and notify the office manager of any equipment malfunctions.
  • Utilize, as appropriate, infection control techniques and universal precautions, and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with all specialties and perform all ancillary tasks.
  • Two years minimum of refracting experience.
  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in an ophthalmic setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Outgoing personality with a passion for interacting with patients.
  • Comfortable providing white glove service and responding quickly to patient needs.
  • Dependable problem solver, able to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Positive, can-do attitude and ability to work well in collaborative environments.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Knowledgeable in ocular pharmacology such as anesthetics, steroids, antibiotics, mydriatics and cycloplegics, epinephrine, miotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories is a PLUS, but not a requirement.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
