About the Role

Austin Housing Authority (AHA) is seeking a motivated and mission-driven candidate to support our Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) and other rental assistance programs through inspections, compliance monitoring, and customer service. AHA has been a leader in affordable housing in the City of Austin for more than 85 years.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections to ensure compliance with HUD's Housing Quality Standards (HQS) for HCV and other rental assistance programs
  • Schedule all HQS inspections using the Elite Inspection Module
  • Complete inspections using the Elite HQS Mobile App
  • Conduct annual recertification, initial, and complaint inspections, and report findings to relevant parties
  • Advise property owners and managers on deficiencies and compliance deadlines
  • Monitor repair deadlines and conduct follow-up inspections to ensure completion
  • Conduct rent reasonableness analyses for new leases and annual rent changes
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from property managers, partners, and clients by phone or email
  • Provide clear guidance on program policies and procedures
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Perform accurate and timely data entry
  • Maintain organized records using the digital file storage system
  • Inform Assisted Housing staff of inspection statuses and non-compliance issues that may require abatement or contract termination
  • Provide support to the Assisted Housing department as needed and complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; OR Two years related experience and/or training; OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong computer skills (Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of building maintenance and construction methods
  • Ability to provide compassionate and professional customer service to clientele of diverse backgrounds including people with disabilities and people experiencing homelessness
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish, cultivate, and maintain effective working relationships with external partners, clients, and coworkers
  • Knowledge of HUD programs, regulatory compliance, and the affordable housing industry
  • Knowledge of business English, basic arithmetic, and general office practices and procedures
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move at least 25 lbs.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, including in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and performing physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Must possess a Texas Driver's License
