About the Role
Join Aegis, a Series A company founded by ex-Google engineers, to build the next generation of AI-powered security products. This role offers a path to significant leadership, starting with owning hard problems, shipping code, setting technical direction, and improving the team. The ideal candidate is a Staff or Senior Staff engineer looking for substantial growth and impact in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Build security systems that make sound decisions from incomplete and noisy information.
- Turn large volumes of security data into high-confidence detections.
- Influence and participate in model creation for product development.
- Understand and define 'normal' behavior for diverse users and organizations.
- Transition new detection ideas from prototypes to reliable production systems.
- Measure the accuracy and effectiveness of built systems.
- Develop systems that operate with considerations for false positives, latency, precision, reliability, and customer trust.
- Work across detection systems, distributed infrastructure, product surfaces, and AI inference.
- Understand the full data path from raw data to customer-visible decisions.
- Contribute to the invention of new product features.
- Ship code, understand systems, set technical direction, and establish credibility through execution.
- Lead projects and engineers as scope is proven.
- Own a larger part of the technical roadmap.
- Participate in hiring.
- Become responsible for team operations.
- Expand into formal engineering leadership with ownership of people, roadmap, hiring, and strategy as the company grows.
- Write code, document decisions, interact with customers, challenge assumptions, and improve systems and the team.
Requirements
- Operated at Staff-level technical scope or have equivalent experience leading technically complex systems and teams.
- Built production systems where false positives, correctness, reliability, or risk were critical.
- Comfortable moving between architecture and implementation.
- Able to make decisions with incomplete information and update them quickly.
- Skilled in prioritizing across multiple important problems.
- Able to communicate technical decisions clearly in writing.
- Ability to make other engineers more effective, regardless of formal management status.
- Desire for significantly more responsibility than current environment allows.
- Excited by the problems themselves.
