About the Role
Join Zip's Forward Deployed Software Engineering team as a software engineer, contributing to high-impact product work. You will write and ship production code, collaborate directly with critical customers, and lead engineering efforts on key deals. The team focuses on customer needs, operates with urgency, and builds features essential for closing major deals and maintaining customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering on critical customer projects, owning scope, sequencing, and delivery.
- Ship high-impact features that advance strategic deals and renewals.
- Develop net-new product capabilities, address framework gaps (APIs, exports, notifications), and implement targeted enhancements.
- Partner with core product teams to define product strategy and roadmap.
- Communicate directly with customers, diagnosing problems and translating technical trade-offs.
- Shape Zip's long-term platform and roadmap based on early customer feedback and patterns.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering skills with experience shipping non-trivial production systems.
- Proficiency in reading and writing code across the stack: Python on the backend and React/TypeScript on the frontend.
- Demonstrated product instincts and judgment, including pushing back on poorly scoped requirements.
- Customer empathy and crisp communication skills, with the ability to translate customer needs into technical specifications.
- Ability to work with speed and urgency while maintaining a high quality bar in production code.
- High ownership, diagnosing and shipping solutions with minimal supervision.
- Experience as a product engineer or full-stack engineer on a team that owned features end-to-end is helpful.
- Founder or early-employee experience is helpful.
- Experience with procurement, finance, ERP, or AP automation systems is helpful.
