About the Role
The Family Child Care Specialist provides coaching, technical assistance, monitoring, and training to Family Child Care Providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality services in accordance with General Child Care and Development (CCTR) requirements. The role supports providers in implementing developmentally appropriate educational activities, effective curriculum practices and school readiness activities while conducting ongoing health and safety monitoring within Family Child Care homes. The FCC Specialist serve as the main link for providing resources and guidance on general licensing regulations. The FCC Specialist also works collaboratively with families to provide services in the areas of health, mental health/inclusion and family needs. Assist in recruitment, enrollment of eligible families in addition to supporting families in accessing varied community resources.
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and training to 5 to 8 Family Child Care Providers to ensure compliance with General Child Care and Development (CCTR) requirements and contractual obligations.
- Conduct one in-person and one virtual visit monthly to each Family Child Care home to observe educational activities, support lesson plan development, and promote curriculum implementation, including a minimum of three unannounced visits per contract period.
- Provide coaching sessions to assigned Family Child Care providers to support professional growth, strengthen instructional practices, and enhance curriculum implementation.
- Monitor family childcare settings monthly to ensure compliance with health and safety licensing regulations and program deadlines for school readiness activities (ASQ screenings, DRDP, Lesson Plans, Parent/Provider conferences, Individual Learning Plans).
- Support FCC Providers in completing DRDPs and Lesson plans.
- Conduct annual FCCERS assessments for assigned providers.
- Design ongoing professional development pathways in collaboration with the FCCN Manager and community partners to support provider competencies in early childhood development and education.
- Develop individualized and group training plans for FCC Providers in collaboration with the FCCN Manager and service area Content Managers.
- Attend monthly Education Team meetings.
- Prepare written communications for providers and parents in their home language, such as memos, flyers, newsletters, and forms.
- Document all contacts with providers, families, staff, and partners in the file log and database, maintaining child and provider files according to regulations.
- Provide comprehensive child and family support services to at least 15 to 25 families with children enrolled in the CCTR FCCHEN program.
- Conduct Family orientation meetings for each new family and facilitate completion of enrollment paperwork.
- Participate in transition entry planning and meetings.
- Conduct monthly check-ins via phone with families and meet in person as needed for family service activities.
- Complete Needs Assessment (Family Profile/SNIPS) for each family.
- Maintain on-going recordkeeping with Family contact notes to document each service contact.
- Arrange and facilitate monthly Family Committee meetings and family education workshops or individualized meetings for caseload.
- Document family and child services in the Child Plus database for all service activities.
- Participate in recruitment/outreach activities to enroll new children into the program.
- Assist families in completing pre-school enrollment applications for children transitioning to pre-school programs.
- Collaborate with the Enrollment team to ensure smooth selection, orientation, and enrollment of children.
- Assist families in navigating the health care system to address and follow up on children’s health care needs.
- Participate in quarterly Family Services Meetings for training and information sharing.
- Participate monthly in FCC Team meetings for service collaboration and information sharing.
- Contact families of absent children and complete the absence request form.
- Arrange attendance intervention meetings with the FCCN Manager and FCC provider to address attendance concerns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or a related field with 18 ECE units.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in an early education setting.
- At least 3 Infant/Toddler units.
- Experience working in a non-profit environment.
- Bilingual and biliterate in English/Spanish or English/Chinese.
- Experience providing training and professional development using adult learning principles.
- Knowledge of early childhood curriculum planning and implementation.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate lesson planning and individualized learning experiences.
- Knowledge of Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP).
- Knowledge of Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) and Ages & Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE).
- Knowledge of Environment Rating Scales and quality improvement practices.
- Knowledge of Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) for continuous quality improvement and provider development.
- Knowledge of family engagement strategies and culturally responsive practices.
- Knowledge of community resources and support services for children and families.
- Knowledge of licensing regulations and quality standards.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team setting.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Proficient in data entry and strong computer skills are highly desirable.
