About the Role

Alternative Payments is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to build systems that solve real business problems for internal teams. This role involves owning initiatives end-to-end, partnering with various departments, and exploring new product concepts, internal tooling, automations, and AI agents. You will focus on internal AI data infrastructure, replicating external SaaS tools, building business-critical dashboards, and developing net-new product POCs. A key aspect is ensuring the reliability and production-grade quality of all developed systems, with a strong emphasis on AI-assisted development and guardrails.

Responsibilities

  • Own initiatives end-to-end, partnering closely with operations, data, and product.
  • Explore net-new product POCs and build internal tooling, automations, and AI agents/agentic workflows.
  • Develop internal AI data infrastructure to consolidate business knowledge and make it usable across teams.
  • Build internal versions of Sales, CS, and Marketing tools tailored to company workflows.
  • Create and maintain operational dashboards, Finance dashboards, and Super Admin dashboards, including automations.
  • Take projects from prototype to production-ready systems, including internal applications, automations, product integrations, and agentic workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Product Engineering team on early-stage ideas, translating business context into technical decisions.
  • Review AI-assisted development work for safety, reliability, and to prevent technical debt.
  • Design and build systems with attention to reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide architecture feedback, and adhere to shared standards.
  • Support non-technical subject matter experts in deploying product, building systems, and refining coding harnesses.
  • Step up, make decisions, and take accountability for outcomes in a high-autonomy team environment.

Requirements

  • Deep architectural knowledge to assess system design and effectiveness.
  • Platform/infrastructure fluency, understanding layers beneath the application (e.g., Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines).
  • Strong software engineering ability across the full stack, with experience shipping production code independently and owning systems end-to-end.
  • An AI-native operating bias, integrating multiple AI models, custom agents, and specialized contexts into workflows.
  • Proficiency in, or ability to quickly learn, TypeScript, Next.js, Python, Go, Rust, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
  • Experience designing and evolving scalable systems with a clear understanding of tradeoffs.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a project from end-to-end, including technical execution, stakeholder communication, and delivery accountability.
  • Cross-functional instincts, comfortable switching context between Operations, Product, and Data teams.
  • A bias toward business impact, with a desire to solve real operational problems and understand business mechanics.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, with the judgment to work autonomously and make decisions.
  • Pragmatism and speed, knowing when to build quickly versus robustly.
  • Experience at a fintech or payments company, or in roles close to money movement (nice-to-have).
  • Experience contributing to billing, payments, or quote-to-cash systems (nice-to-have).
  • Experience building internal tools, admin panels, or business-facing dashboards (nice-to-have).
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures (e.g., RabbitMQ) (nice-to-have).
  • Background at a fast-scaling startup or experience owning systems end-to-end close to the business (nice-to-have).
