About the Role
Join a new integration team in Toronto focused on bringing core eBay capabilities into adjacent marketplace platforms. This role is a hands-on technical leadership position for an experienced backend engineer to define architecture, write production code, and drive execution in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment. You will lead the technical direction for key platform integrations, partnering closely with engineering teams across multiple stacks and geographies while staying deeply involved in implementation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical architecture for a marketplace integration team, from early concept through implementation.
- Write and ship production code; this role is expected to be heavily hands-on.
- Drive architectural discussions, design reviews, and PR reviews across integration workstreams.
- Translate ambiguous business or product goals into clear, scalable technical solutions.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to integrate services across distinct platforms and tech stacks.
- Help define how eBay capabilities can be exposed as services for other platforms and future integrations.
- Influence engineering best practices around system design, maintainability, and long-term scalability.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on backend engineering experience in Java.
- Proven ability to lead technical architecture and make sound system design decisions.
- Experience building or integrating distributed systems and service-based architectures.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and forming a clear technical point of view with incomplete information.
- Strong individual contributor mindset with a desire to grow as a technical leader rather than a people manager.
