About the Role
Tokio Marine Canada is seeking a Sr. Underwriting Specialist Casualty to join their team. This role focuses on production underwriting of profitable new and renewal Casualty business, risk selection, and analysis. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain strong broker relationships and contribute to the company's growth and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Production Underwriting of profitable new and renewal Casualty business (General Liability, Umbrella and Excess).
- Risk selection and analysis using logical, methodical underwriting tools and methods.
- Ensuring all files are well documented and comply with departmental requirements.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with broker partners.
- Market presentations and relationship management to develop business.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues for a multi-line approach.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities.
- Facultative Reinsurance placements (as per departmental guidelines).
- Grow target business and maintain profitability.
- Conduct peer reviews and broker/MGA audits.
- Train/mentor designated staff.
- Internal monthly and quarterly review presentations on results and production.
- Ongoing learning and updating of changes in marketplace, insurance trends, and litigation.
- Assist with broader company tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Direct experience in casualty underwriting.
- Team player with a positive attitude who thrives in a consensus culture with an emphasis on collaboration.
- Self-starter who is excited by the opportunity to jump right in and can come up to speed quickly.
- Comfortable working on a lean team and not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work that needs to be done.
- The ability to negotiate and define specific terms and conditions of our policies with brokers/MGAs.
- File review/audit capabilities for peer and broker reviews.
- A high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, driving for results.
- Thought leadership and can innovate solutions quickly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working closely with others and enjoy an atmosphere of cross-collaboration.
- The ability to thrive in a changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
