About the Role
Battery Park Montessori is seeking a Substitute Montessori Preschool Teacher to join our team. We are New York City’s only Montessori school offering a fully immersive Spanish and Mandarin experience for children from Nursery Ones through Kindergarten, nurturing independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.
Responsibilities
- Create welcoming, functional, safe, attractive, de-cluttered, stimulating and physically comfortable learning environments
- Assist children during bathroom or hygiene-related activities
- Work with and follow the team’s guidelines with regards to classroom schedule, activities, and norms
- Step in for teachers that are absent and follow the guidance of the other teachers in the classroom or of the Parent Liaison
Requirements
- Montessori teaching experience preferred
- Bachelors Degree in Education or a related field (Masters preferred)
- Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience
- Fluent in English (able to successfully attend workshops, read professional information and work collaboratively in the language.)
- Legally authorized to work now and in the future in the United States
- Knowledgeable about the Montessori curriculum and philosophy and able to successfully employ effective teaching practices
- Willing and eager to learn about Montessori if not credentialed
- Enjoys collaborating with fellow teachers and is willing to heed direction and feedback from them
- Dedicated to internationalism and anti-bias teaching practices and maintains a positive school culture for everyone in the community
- Exceptional communication skills with students and teachers
