About the Role
The Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan is seeking an upbeat, friendly, and enthusiastic Swim Instructor passionate about teaching children, promoting swimming skills, and water safety. The Aquatics Department serves approximately 1,200 students weekly through various swim lessons.
Responsibilities
- Commitment to regular schedule, on time
- Ability to multitask and stay calm in a busy environment
- Teach proper swimming strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly)
- Enforce water safety rules and supervise swimmers
- Design clear lesson plans tailored to different ages and skill levels
- Evaluate student progress and provide feedback
- Empathy and patience with swimmers
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Current CPR certification required
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred
- Previous swim instruction experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create a positive, welcoming, and safe learning environment
- Experience working with children of varying ages and abilities
- Strong personal swimming and stroke knowledge
