About the Role
Mercy Haven is seeking a Full-Time Peer Specialist to assist individuals using peer support skills to increase their self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and self-worth. This role involves advocating for participants and helping them develop self-advocacy skills within a supportive therapeutic environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide peer support services to all participants.
- Use lived experiences to engage participants, establish rapport and connection, and empathetically foster trust.
- Conduct group peer sessions on skill building and development.
- Attend case conferences and discharge planning meetings to advocate for participants.
- Craft detailed daily progress notes on participants' activities and maintain accurate records.
- Assist participants in utilizing public transportation and attending appointments.
- Treat all participants in a respectful, trauma-informed manner to ensure a recovery-oriented environment.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Peer Certification preferred (CPS or CRPA), but in progress Peer Certification required (CPS-P or CRPA-P).
- Valid NYS Driver's License in good standing.
- Related experience working with people living with mental illness or other disabilities that require assistance in day-to-day living required.
- Electronic Health Record Experience preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Physical Requirements: remains stationary for long periods of time in the office, moves intermittently throughout the office during work hours, reaching overhead, may push or pull 15-20 pounds daily, repetitive wrist/finger movement, read/write reports and use computer on daily basis, drive agency vehicle.
