About the Role

This role involves implementing individualized education programs, supervising staff, assessing children, and collaborating with various teams to support student development.

Responsibilities

  • Implement an individualized education program according to the specific needs of each child.
  • Assign and supervise Teaching Assistants, Aides, and volunteers.
  • Work cooperatively with other disciplines in the delivery of support services.
  • Supervise student and practicum teachers.
  • Complete an initial assessment of each child to determine current levels of functioning.
  • Ensure the establishment of realistic long and short-term goals and objectives.
  • Apply accepted methods of teaching to realize established goals.
  • Periodically re-evaluate the progress of assigned children.
  • Present information on children as requested and work cooperatively with the Clinical Education Team.
  • Develop and implement daily plans based on individual child needs.
  • Establish and maintain an accurate log for each child.
  • Maintain at least weekly documented contact with parents.
  • Plan and conduct parent conferences in cooperation with Social Work and the Education Coordinator.
  • Complete periodic written progress reports for parents and school districts.
  • Attend local school district Committee for Special Education annual review meetings.
  • Perform duties appropriate to a special education classroom teacher.
  • Work cooperatively with representatives of Colleges and Universities in program implementation for student and practicum teachers.
  • Assist representatives of Colleges and Universities in evaluating student and practicum teachers.
  • Assign classroom staff to specific activities.
  • Conduct at least weekly classroom staff meetings.
  • Provide direct supervision of classroom staff activities.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated successful experience with disabled children.
  • Required student and/or practicum teaching experience.
